MacFarlane Park's Gifted Program
Mrs. Desmond and Mrs. Flaque as Thing One and Thing Two-on Dr. Seuss' Birthday!
Co-teach and Support Facilitation within our classrooms
MacFarlane Park uses the co-teach and support facilitation gifted models, to support our students learning needs. Ms. Flaque and I co-teach along with the classroom teacher, primarily during math and science to enrich our students' learning. The co-teach model is beneficial to reach gifted and high achieving or academically talented students. Support facilitation allows us to spend time within classrooms working on specific student needs or goals to support their personal strengths. While using the new Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) we are unwrapping each standard to identify curriculum to teach, enrich and extend these specific standards and Big Ideas. Students are able to assimilate their learning and personal learning goals in authentic learning situations. We have lots of fun in our learning every day!
First Grade Scientists
First grade scientists work together to learn science concepts.
Second Grade is stupendous
We have been learning math and science with many hands on, cooperative activities. We have our hands full with learning about seeds!
Second graders soar into Science Olympics!
Each year second graders compete for the top spot to join other second graders at MOSI to build and fly an airplane.
Third Grade Scientists
In Third Grade, the students are cooperatively learning how to use science tools. Their science notebooks will be a great place to store their science wonderings, observations, and writing.
Science all around school
Students use our entire campus for science investigation! Our S'more baking skills were put to the test!
Students find math in architecture
Recently I went on a Workshop to St. Augustine, FL sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council. While there for a 3 day long weekend, I learned about the history of St. Augustine and Florida. I brought many photos back of the historical buildings. To get them ready for their own St. Augustine field trip, students found all types of angles and two- and three-dimensional shapes in the photos.
Fourth Grade Scientists and Mathematicians
Fourth graders work collaboratively in the classroom.
We work cooperatively to learn the scientific process.
Observation and experiments are fun ways to learn our science process skills.
